Both Lake Fonck and Lake Roca are part of the Manso River Basin and share the classic features of the region’s glacial lakes: medium-sized bodies of water surrounded by lush vegetation, with limited access that helps preserve the quality of the fishery. Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout are the most common species, with Brown Trout occasionally appearing in good size. Within Nahuel Huapi National Park, these lakes offer an ideal setting to pursue them. Their geography—whether dense reed beds or forested shorelines—makes having a boat a significant advantage for anglers. Because of their remote location, farther from Bariloche than many other lakes, both usually provide better fishing opportunities. Depending on the time of year and prevailing conditions, one or the other may be prioritized to maximize the day’s success.
Lake Fonck has an elongated shape, divided into two distinct sections: the smaller Fonck Chico and the larger Fonck Grande. Fonck Chico is surrounded by thick reed beds, making fishing possible only from a boat. Fonck Grande, in contrast, offers a wide variety of shoreline structure, from extensive reeds to rocky walls and submerged vegetation, and receives the inflow of two productive streams—the Calote and the Frío.
Similarly, the Roca is bordered by dense coihue forests and abundant aquatic vegetation along its margins. It is fed by three streams—Expedicionarios, Linco, and Felipe—providing diverse structure and highly promising fishing situations.
Both lakes lie in the southwestern sector of Nahuel Huapi National Park, about 37 miles from Bariloche. In midsummer they come alive with the famous Dragonfly Hatch, one of the most thrilling times to fish here, as large trout rise aggressively to smash big, foamy terrestrials such as Fat Alberts, Chernobyl Ants, or realistic dragonfly patterns. Throughout the season, we adjust our gear and techniques to make the most of each outing.

Both lakes are located about 37 miles from Bariloche. A good part of the journey follows gravel roads, making the drive roughly an hour and a half. We typically meet between 7:00 and 8:00 AM at a designated point in Bariloche before heading to either lake to begin our day.
Once the boat and gear are ready, we fish from about 9:00–10:00 AM until 1:00 PM, when we pause for a well-deserved riverside meal. After lunch, we return to the water and continue fishing until around 4:00–5:00 PM, before heading back to your accommodation or the agreed meeting point.

I don’t own fishing gear. Do you provide it?
No worries—we provide everything you need. All equipment is included and tailored to the waters you’ll be fishing, including rods, reels, lines, and flies.
Do I need to know how to fly fish?
Not at all. Our guides love introducing newcomers to this fascinating sport and will do their best to help you land your first trout on your very first fly-fishing experience. Alternatively, most of the waters we fish are also suitable for conventional spinning gear.
I’m vegetarian/vegan. Do you offer alternative food choices?
Absolutely. We’re happy to adapt meals to your dietary needs. Just let us know about any preferences or restrictions in advance, and we’ll make sure you enjoy the food as much as the scenery and the fishing.
